Wigan Athletic are in trouble. 1 win in 15 Championship games, 2 points in 7 games under the new manager Kolo Touré and several off the pitch issues that are adding to the panic supporters are feeling. We’re rock bottom of the league, don’t look like winning any of the games we’re playing and look destined for yet another relegation into League One. But all hope is not lost.
We’re still somehow only 4 points off safety and there’s 18 games to go. We’ve got games against 6 of the 7 teams in the ‘relegation scrap’ left to play and have got bogey teams Sunderland and Middlesbrough out of the way already! So despite the fact there feels like there is nothing to be positive about at the moment, and I’ve felt that at times too, if Latics manage to do these 5 things I truly believe we’ll complete the unlikely survival. Just.
In order to get a gauge of what other Latics fans felt were the most important things to do to ensure survival, I put a tweet out asking for some ideas. Here are the most common responses.
- Sack Kolo Touré
- Find a style and stick to it
- Sign a new Left Back
- Sack Rob Kelly
- Add some pace to the side
They’re the leading five responses I received which I think says a lot about the current mood in our fan base. The fact that Kolo has been here for just over 2 months and he’s already losing the supporters is worrying and unless results improve immediately it’s only going to get worse. Also, assistant coach Rob Kelly is under fire too as he was during Leam Richardson’s time at the club. The manager / supporter bond simply isn’t there.
So they’re the supporters 5 changes, but how similar to mine are they? Let’s find out…
