Curtis Tilt is back!
I’ve heard of try before you buy, but I think Wigan have taken that to an all new level with Curtis Tilt! After 3 loan spells at the club, Curtis Tilt has completed a permanent move to Wigan Athletic from Rotherham United. The Jamaican international had been recalled by his parent club at the start of the transfer window, but all parties were keen to finalise the deal.
Tilt signs an 18 month deal at the DW Stadium, with the transfer fee believed to be in the region of £100,000. And this could prove to be shrewd business if the 30 year old helps push Latics to promotion come May.
Having been a key figure in last seasons relegation battle, I was delighted to see him return at the start of the season to compete for places with Watmough, Watts, and Kerr. He’s played 12 games in all competitions, and somewhat surprisingly has contributed 2 fantastic goals. His screamer against Burton and his late winner to seal a fantastic comeback at Fleetwood are 2 of my favourite moments this season.
His leadership qualities mustn’t go unnoticed either, having experienced players and ‘solid pros’ during promotion run ins could prove the difference, as seen with Sunderland’s signing of Danny Batth from Stoke City.
My preferred defensive pairing would still be Jack Watmough and Kell Watts, but having 2 options as good as Jason Kerr, who lets not forget won the double in Scotland with St Johnstone last season, and Curtis Tilt to bring into the team is brilliant.
